A
decade ago, when the Internet was young, web publishers had but a
limited number of choices when it came to making money from their
websites. They used to lease out their web pages to advertisers whom
they painstakingly sought. The rate of advertising, of course, was for
a renewable period and for a sum commensurate to the popularity of the
website. To say that the earning potential for this method was
sustainable would be wishful thinking. The truth of the matter is that
most webmasters back then were settling for mere pennies.
This all changed with the introduction of Google AdSense in 2003.
The most exciting feature of Google AdSense is what has been called
contextual advertising. This means that the Google AdSense program will
assign some ads to a particular website based on the subject that the
latter is devoted to. If a website promotes dog grooming for example,
Google AdSense would display ads that are related to the same, such as
dog care products, dog grooming paraphernalia, dog clothing, and the
likes. This would result in a higher likelihood that the websites
visitors would click on the ads since they pertain to the very reason
why the users visited the site in the first place. And since the
web publisher would get paid per click, this would mean a higher income
for him.
So how can you make money with Google Adsense?
To
make money with Google Adsense you will need a website or blog.
You will need a website or blog just to apply for an Adsense account if
you don't have one and to also serve as a place to publish your Adsense
ads. The easiest way to get a blog is to go to www.blogger.com and apply. Its free. Get an Adsense account here if you don't already have one:
Making money with Google
Adsense is essentially done by playing a numbers game. The more web pages
you have with Adsense ads on them out on the web the better chance you
will have at someone visiting your site and clicking on an ad.
Because of this known fact and because Adsense is based on contextual
advertisements, it makes sense to build a lot of websites and blogs with good
content on them. To these websites and blogs we would add the
Google Adsense code to populate the web site pages with the Adsense
ads. The more sites you have with good content, the more money you can make with Google Adsense.
There
are other factors that influence how much money you make with Google Adsense
ads. These would be things like the type of ad, the ad color, the
ad placement, the targeted keywords and the amount of traffic your
website receives. There is an excellent resource available called
What Google Never Told You About Making Money With Adsense.
This resource is made available by Joel Comm who has made up to $25,000
a month with Adsense. In this book, Joel covers in great detail
what needs to be done with your website to make more money with Adsense.
Here
are some excellent tactics you can use to keep on track for making more, rather
than less money with Adsense. Many of these tactics are used by
Adsense "super earners".
Treat your Adsense like a business and track what you do - track what ads are making money and what ads are not.
Don't chase the absolute highest paying keywords - they are too competitive.
Choose
a broad niche and break it down into sub niches. Profit pulling
niches will show you an exact method to make a system of Adsense niche
blogs.
Keep your site's focus consistent so you get relevant adsense ads.
Decide if
the purpose of your site is for Adsense or to sell products (like a
mini site would). Usually the two do not mix well.
With that said, frequently add content to your site or blog to attract the search engines and keep them coming back.
